Link Popularity is a term used to describe how well your web site is linked to from other sites. It is a number that is assigned by any particular search engine. For measuring Link Popularity with Google you will have to install the Google toolbar, when visiting a web site the Link Popularity will show up as a number between 1-10. 1 being a bad indicator and 10 being perfect.

It is not easy to understand how exactly link popularity is assigned, that information is kept secret by the search engine companies. A rough indicator is that a normal link popularity is about 3 on google and anything higher than a 6 is fantastic. The higher the number of incoming links to your site the more likely your link popularity will increase over time. The link popularity of an inactive site will decrease over time. Finally the more high quality sites you have linking to your site the better for your link popularity, that is sites with a high LInk Popularity will benefit you more than sites with a low Link Popularity linking to your site.
